Adoradores do Rock Clássico, segue Deep Purple com o clássico "Perfect Strangers", lançado em 1984. O vocalista Ian Gillan esteve em 1983 no Black Sabbath para gravar o único álbum junto com os Sabbath, intitulado: Born Again. Ian Gillan encaixa-se perfeitamente nas características de um vocalista de Heavy Metal, apesar de Gillan pertencer ao Deep Purple desde os primórdios. Um gênio, simplesmente! O brilhante produtor Martin Birch (o mesmo produtor dos discos / álbuns do Black Sabbath e do Iron Maiden) esteve junto ao Deep Purple em sua época áurea. Tanto o Deep Purple quanto o Iron Maiden assinaram contrato durante anos com a melhor gravadora, na época - EMI.
